"Psychic advisors" and Candle Magic Scams.

I am sorry to say I spent a good deal of time on the phone this evening talking with a woman who as very agitated. 

She was very glad to have found my number and really wanted to tell me all about her love troubles and the magic work her "psychic advisor" was going to do for her. 

I did stop the woman before she told me the whole story, as repeating the story often sets the hook deeper. I just wanted to know the primary reason for her call. 

I did have to stop and get back to the point of the call a few times before I could understand that she had placed a good deal of faith and hope in a "psychic" who had been working with the caller about her love life. 

The short of the story is that the "advisor" had recommend the purchase of $3,100.00 in candles that the psychic would take to her mentor to have burned, in a sacred place, to remove obstacles that were keeping the woman's former lover from returning to her.

It seems the new love in the man's life had purchased powerful witchcraft and had ordered very dark spells to be placed on the man. This spell work caused the man to turn away from my caller (his true "twin flame") and to go with another woman. 

The man no longer called, sent flowers, sent cards, took my caller to dinner, in fact he had moved on and seemed to be "with" the new woman. 

The caller - let's call her Jane - had been consulting her "advisor" for some time, and had trust in her "psychic" because many of the things the psychic said had come true.  A good reader, authentic or cold, can foretell the future some of the time. The ethical reader seeks to empower the client. 

This kind of call, which I answer far too often, is why I started hand pouring candles by the signs. I feel it is very important that people understand that they are the magic.  Prayer and meditation can change the world. If you change yourself everyone around you will change in reply. 

The cunning "advisors" know that some people lack self confidence, or some want what they want so very badly that they will go to any length to get what they want.    

The energetic or spiritual problems with hiring a psychic to burn candles for you, or to have her priestess burn those candles (that you will never see because they are shipped off to a private temple somewhere) are many. 

First - you are turning a good deal of money, and trust, and energy over to someone who promises to make your true love return to you. 

 

* Please notice that in this con it is very common for:

1. The magic to be stronger than the "advisor" first thought so you will have to buy more candles. 
2. You will do something wrong that breaks the work the priestess is doing and she will have to begin again which will cost more money.
3. The results are coming, you just have to be patient and have faith (this is when the "advisor" stops returning your calls.)

The ugly side of this kind of action is that is horribly selfish. I feel it is a form of energetic abuse at best. Really - who has the right, who is so important that they may make another person love them? 

Buying "magic" to make someone love you is not the action of a loving heart. Please - think about it. We reap what we sow. 

The candles I sell are poured to help you change you. My candles come with affirmations you repeat while you are burning the candle (a focusing tool)  so that you become more magnetic to love, success, money all by changing your mind. There must be a space in your understanding of the possible for the things you want to appear. 

As well, we may want all sorts of things, however if we do not do the work it takes to bring them to us not much will come of wanting.

I have not now, nor will I ever sell a product that is created to act on another person. By the law of causality, you shall reap the bitter fruit of forcing your will on another. I cannot participate in that, nor can I endorse it.

Let me just say again: If a psychic, seer, mystic, root worker, witch, or shaman wants to sell you magic please look to your heart and see if your motive is pure and comes from love.   

Please be prepared to spend all your savings, perhaps borrow from friends and family to continue to pay the money you need because the "work is almost done now."

I have seldom seen the bad luck lifted, the curse is removed, or the lover returned. Before  you part with your money please do a bit of research. 

Speak with a teacher in your spiritual tradition, and then realize that if you are working with a healer, they will be charging a set fee per session to heal you! 

There are cultures and traditions where shamans and priestesses do great work, and can perform wonderful actions, great healing and sometimes even miracles. I have great respect for the true energy workers who help and heal. 

I have never seen the great sorcerers sell their magic power for dollars. It just doesn't work like that. I hope you find this article helpful. If you are in the middle of a con like this may I suggest that you step away. 

Often if you just stop paying, stop calling, and let your mind rest you will get some clarity.     

Please know that I believe in the multiverse theories of reality. I do believe that magic exists in many forms. I do believe that there are fine and powerful minds capable of all sorts of miracles. 

I know there are all kinds of sprits around us all the time. There are spirits of people, of places, of animals and plants. There are unseen energies that effect us all. I am not intending to make fun of anyone who has cultural values that are different that mine. 

I have an abiding respect for all mystery schools. If you seek a shaman, perhaps your shaman will appear. Seek with a pure heart for right work and you will find your power.

I am pleased to post information about the Protection Ritual Candle poured All Hallows Eve by my hand. I have been pouring these candles on the same night every years for over 10 years, although blog posts go back to 2006.

Protection Candles - Dove Grey Natural Wax Candles by Ann George

Moon poured Protection candles were hand poured in sacred space with clear intent on October 31, 2010 at 8:00 PM EDT. All Hallows Eve, also known as Samhain (Celtic) or Nos Galan Gaeaf (Welsh), has been celebrated for centuries. Sacred or Holy days that are traditionally observed for a special purpose are excellent time to pour candles as the energy or intent of that day blesses the pour.

Ritual Candles - Questions & Answers About Use & Care

I am pleased to post this questions and answer discussion between myself & a remarkable customer, with her kind permission. i feel that the topics covered will be of benefit to all who use candles for prayer, ritual & meditation. I will post the original letter first, and continue forward to the resolution.

Letter One - Feb 24, 2009:

Ann,

I purchased two candles from you and they have been wonderful. We recently moved and the candles were accidently damaged. The protection candle has a crack through the center and the wealth candle has a crush damage on the top and bottom.

I am concerned because we are experiencing some "bad luck." My intuition is telling me I should purchase a new set, but want to properly "lay to rest" the original candles. What is the proper method for handling the damaged candles?

Hello Donna,

Thank you for your letter. I have given your question a good deal of thought.
I always encourage people to trust their intuition, so if you want to lay the damaged candles to rest, then, wrap them in white paper, or black silk & keep them in a drawer somewhere... sort of "saving" them.

However, my own first thought is to burn them. The energy of the moment is still in the wax, regardless of appearance. The most useful, empowered way to lay them to rest for me would be to burn them up.

I don't advise that you do the meditation with them, but rather just light the wick & burn each candle as a candle, enjoy the light & the fragrance. I am interested to know which method you prefer.

Letter Two - Mar 2, 2009:

Ann,

I thought you might like to hear how things have progressed. I started burning the candles just outright and things got worse. I wrapped them as instructed and placed them in a drawer and things have improved again.
I wanted to give it time to confirm my suspicions. Sometimes energies in the universe can overlap and you think one thing is the cause and it turns out it is something else so I try to make sure I am eliminating the proper negative influence.

Anyway, we have seen an improvement since "silencing" the candles and plan on purchasing our new ones tonight. Thank you for all your assistance. Any additional insight you might have would be helpful on how to best lay to rest our troubled candles.

Hello Donna,

Thanks so much for your note. I find it very interesting that the damaged candles seem to correlate to episodes of "not luck".
I feel confident that the intent of the candle cannot be damaged by damage to the pillar itself. So, in looking for insights, I am reminded of a traditional mystical "rule" to protect ones sacred objets, power objects, relics & spiritual images; to care for them & to keep them in sacred space.

In my own experience, once, accidentally, and in an impatient hurry, I damaged a sacred object. The damage was minimal, but my distress, shame about my carelessness & concern for the karmic repercussions was profound & energeticallly quite loud.

I felt bad about the damage done for days. I did purifications practices within my tradition to energetically repent and atone for my error. This worked for me, as I have a traditional that offers specific practices for such times. As well, I felt better for taking an action.

So, the suggestion of putting the candles to rest in a protected space may be best. (This is a reference to wrapping each of them in black silk & keeping them in a cabinet, drawer, some place where special things go.) It would be an atonement, and perhaps, over time, they may be a useful offering to burn when another atonement time is at hand. Again, your intuition is usually the best insight.

It is also possible that other factors are at play and energies are overlapping that make the burning of these particular candles coincide with other disturbances.
Simultaneously, there are times when the purification of karmas manifest as "troubles" especially when we are at the end of them. This is also true in energy healings when there seems to be a marked increase in all the symptoms of a disease just before there is a complete healing.

I really do thank you for sharing these experiences with me, and look forward to other notes you care to send. I am quite sure this question & answer sort of dialogue will also be useful to others who include candle work in their spiritual journey.

Letter Three - March 4, 2009:

Ann,

I am honored that you want to post our discussion. I also agree that it may take time to learn the true cause of our disturbance. Our life is filled with change, excitement and stress currently. Your candles are extremely potent and their influence is so obvious that I instantly thought of them as a source for our "trouble" when they were damaged. I only burn the money candle occasionally because I am not able to keep up with the success it brings if i burn it too often.

I am relieved to have your insight and instruction about the intent of the magic vs. the pillar as the source for the power they have. I am also taking steps to protect our space and dispel any negative chi that may be collecting as a result of these changes in our life. Perhaps, there is a negative force wanting to harm our candles and from your words I know I should not give power to that force. For now, I will protect the candles, monitor closely and attempt to narrow down further what is happening.

I will keep you posted. I know in the past when I was dealing with a negative force it took sometime to find the source and I was mislead a couple of times into thinking that I had figured it out. As I write this my intuition is telling me that this is important and that I was not thinking about this as a cause and I am taking a step in the right direction. Before, I was merely focused on the result of the accident to our candles and not thinking enough about the cause.

I think when our new candle arrives that I will protect it between use until this is resolved. Since you have sold out of the protection candles, I will meditate with the protection candle I have for guidance as to whether I can use it the same way by protecting it between uses. Your thoughts on this would be most welcome.

Amazing, I just have to tell you very quickly what has transpired in the last few minutes of writing to you last. I called my husband to discuss our e-mails and to ask him to pick up a few items for me to perform my regular rituals.

Writing to you helped me to focus and channel myself to understand what is happening to us. So much has been revealed to me further by talking this through with him and I am seeing where I let myself be distracted from my rituals and am seeing the result in these disturbances.

We moved into a "new" house of a friend. I really like the neighborhood, my friend and the house. For a variety of reasons, I neglected and put off some of my normal rituals for cleansing and preparing our sacred space. I also ignored the warning signs I had been getting from my new neighbor who has become an instant friend but does not realize he's been trying to show me the dissonance in my new home caused by the previous tenants.

In particular, one person who used to live there was very set on sucking the life out of the house and money from the owner through various means. I am usually very intuned with harmful energy and can feel it as soon as I enter a home or meet someone. This person must not be inherently bad, but simply a drainer of success and financial well being. I allowed myself to be too distracted and I did not listen to my new home as I should have.

As soon as I got off the phone an order came in for my business and the house began speaking to me in small ways to say I am on the right track. I am going to order the housewarming candle and perform the rituals I should have performed to begin with properly. My inner being is just dancing with excitement.

Here is a frequently asked question I will try to answer thoroughly.

Hello Ms. George,

I am interested in purchasing a marriage or a soulmate candle.

ISSUE: My boyfriend is not willing to commit to me and our future. I feel I need help getting this to happen & to get him to focus on our relationship {get married}.

QUESTION: Will your marriage or soulmate candle solidify our relationship and result in a marriage?

The short answer to this question is, of course, No. My candle will not solidify any relationship nor will that candle in and of itself cause a relationship to result in marriage. No candle will do that.

The Soulmate ritual candle is a tool to empower the user to heal their mind/heart/soul/ to be better able to attract a loving relationship. In particular, a "right" love. The purpose of the candle, and the affirmation, is to focus the will, or the intent of the user to become energetically magnetic to their desired outcome.

I will not ever create a tool of any kind that is designed to affect the will of another person. The idea that using a candle, or magic spell to control or change the mind, heart or will of another person is at best a very dangerous concept.

In our culture, we often feel that if we can only make the other person see our point of view, or make the other person understand how we feel, or cause them to see how right we are, or to realize how surely their life will improve if only the other person does what we want them to do, then everything will be all right.

The problem with this world view, particularly when it comes to the matter of love.. is that attempting to bend another to our will is NOT loving. Good love seeks the happiness of the beloved. If the happiness of the beloved is not to marry.. then the lover must choose to accept that decision and remain, or accept that decision and move on.

Seeking to "getting this to happen & to get him to focus on our relationship {get married}" through supernatural channels, candlemagic, or other extra ordinary means usually results in the loss of love.

If my husband and my astrological signs are not compatible will the benefits still be as effective?

This is an excellent question, and is really several little questions all at once. I will limit my answer to the issue of moon poured ritual candles in particular. I choose to pour Soul Mate or Love candles during Sun signs and Moon signs that are compatible with each other to capture that energy to benefit my clients, regardless of the sign they or their lover, boyfriend, girlfriend, husband or wife is born under.

For example, one of the best Western zodiac combination of signs for lasting love is Taurus & Scorpio, another is Cancer & Pisces. The idea of pouring the candles during the compatible signs is that the best possible energy to ensure the outcome you prefer, combined with regular use & application of the enclosed affirmation will help you heal your mind and heart so that love more easily comes to you.

The astrology of the people in question does not have an impact on the effect of the candle. It will of course have an impact on the nature of the relationship between a couple. This difference in Sun signs does not give a complete picture about a coupled relationship as the placement of the other planets in the birth chart is very important.

My candles are intended to be meditation tools and/or focusing tools in general. Because they are not intended to be "Spell Candles", they are suitable for use at any time without performing any additional rituals such as a protection ritual. However, your intent and your magical lineage is the best resource for clarity on a question like that. From the point of view of certain Western Mystery Traditions, a protection ritual is required before any magical work. Often an invocation is not only the start of magic, but also of most all prayer in any tradition.

I am happy to publish this reply to several letters I have recently received that ask excellent questions. I will do my best to answer them, one at a time.

Let’s begin with:

“If I have a relationship problem and I wish to reunite with my boyfriend do you do spell work or work that can help us get back together?”“

I do not do spellwork to help couples get back together. Further, I do not encourage anyone to attempt to purchase spell work that involves an attempt to act upon another person, to attempt to control or to change another person. I find this type of action to be at best energetically abusive.

“Also your candles are they spells?”“

My candles are not spells. They are focusing tools, hand poured, colored and fragranced according to established principles of astrology, aromatherapy & color therapy with the specific healing intent to help the client train his or her own mind to heal the inner cause of the outer condition.

The purchase of a love candle could help you. The affirmation included is designed to heal the one’s understanding of the possible.. to affirm that right love is present now.. and that this love will endure.

This is not to say that the candle will “bring” your lover back to you. However, the ritual proces could help you heal your understanding of love & loving relationship so that one of two things might occur. The first is that you may discover that the relationship you previously found so vital.. is not as desirable as it once was.. or.. the second possible outcome is that you will choose to change your feelings, values and thus your behaviors so that your partner will see you in a different light, and find you more desireable.

FAQ & the use of Ritual Candles

This post is in reply to some excellent questions I just received. While the link referenced in the title does provide a general introduction to candle burning ritual, these questions were specific and you may find the answers to be helpful in your own meditation & ritual work. This is the list of questions I received:

We would like to have more information on the use of the candles we purchased from you. All the questions you can answer would be a great help.

1) When is best time to light it ( the candle) ?
It is best to light the candle when you have plenty of time to focus your attention on the ritual process. It doesn't really matter whether you choose morning, mid day or evening. What matters most is that you can sit and repeat the affirmation included with each candle at least 10 times. The candles are all moon poured, so the energy of the best time to light it is really already included in the candle. 2) How long do i keep it lit at a time?
It is best to sit in meditation with the candle, repeating the affirmation for at least 10 to 15 minutes every day until the candle has been burned up. It is not necessary to leave the candle burning when you are away from it. The candle is a focusing tool to help you do the greatest magic of all, that of transforming your internal dialogue.

3) Do I leave it in the same place or more it around the house?
It is best to do ritual and meditation work in the same place, preferably some place in the home that feels good to you. A place that is "just yours", one that may have a small personal alter or shrine. Many people find it helpful to place their shrine or alter so that they face east when praying.

4) As we both have sons we are trying to help, can we even help our sons with us using the candles?
Yes! This is a great question. Our prayers can be dedicated to the benefit of anyone. When we do candle ritual to pray for healing, wealth, love, success or any other blessing... we can pray that our loved ones receive equal or greater blessing that those we are asking for ourselves.
